Meet the team

The organistions senior management team is:

John was appointed Interim Managing Director of GMSS in July 2018.  

He has wide experience in the health arena, having held several senior NHS positions since 2006.  

Prior to joining the NHS John worked with a global drinks business. He has extensive experience of leading shared services both in the private and public sectors.

Mark is Head of Policy and Corporate Operations at GMSS and has responsibility for internal corporate governance, risk management and the production of strategies and policies for the effective operational management of the organisation. He oversees the organisations corporate functions which includes the following teams: Performance, Communications, Equality, Diversity and Human Rights, Information Governance, Resilience and Corporate Admin.

During his 17 year NHS career, Mark has developed Patient Advice and Liaison Services (PALS) in Manchester, managed complaints services and acted as a Senior Account Manager profiling commissioning support services, seeking new business and managing client and customer relationships.

Appointed in December 2020, Paula brings over 30 years of NHS experience to GMSS. 

She has extensive NHS knowledge and experience, having had senior roles in commissioning, acute and mental health trusts. 

As Head of Operations, she has responsibility for The Care Gateway, Urgent and Emergency Care Team, Registration Authority and Data Quality teams. 

Paula fosters a culture of continuous improvement, having led multiple local, regional and national change programmes over the last 15 years. Having a passion and enthusiasm for improving patient pathways and outcomes, she is keen to ensure we remain focussed on how our work benefits the patient.  

Ann has worked in NHS informatics services for over 20 years. During her career she has had wider commissioning roles including leading on strategic planning, annual planning processes, winter planning, workforce planning and commissioning acute and specialist services from NHS Trusts.

Ann was formerly the Associate Director for IM&T at NHS Bury Primary Care Trust where she led many early adopter projects as part of the National Programme for IT. She was appointed to her role at NHS Greater Manchester Commissioning Support Unit in June 2012. Ann led the formation and transition of the IT services from the 10 former NHS Primary Care Trusts and an IT Strategic Development Programme to consolidate the infrastructure and services across Greater Manchester.

In her role as Head of IT Technical Support at NHS Greater Manchester Shared Services Ann is responsible for ensuring appropriate operational systems, services and processes are in place to deliver effective IT services to the Clinical Commissioning Groups, GP Practices and other organisations commissioning services. She leads on the financial planning, service level agreements and the overall management of IT Operational services on a day to day basis.

Jackie started her NHS career in 1993 working as an interim at the Health Authority in Manchester supporting the Medical Manpower Team before joining the North West Financial Management Graduate Scheme in 1994. She completed the scheme and qualified as an accountant in 1997 with the professional accountancy body Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA). 

Jackie has over 25 years of experience across commissioning and provider organisations and now in shared services. She joined GMSS in July 2018 as Chief Finance Officer, having previously held the role of Deputy Chief Finance Officer at NHS Bolton CCG.

Her role at GMSS was previously a joint role between GMSS and Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, whilst the transition of GMSS to new hosting arrangements and the Corporate Services Delivery Vehicle (CSDV) took place. Jackie’s role is now fully focussed on GMSS and providing the strategic and professional financial leadership for the organisation alongside the Managing Director.

In addition, Jackie is the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) for GMSS.

Martin has more than 10 years NHS experience. He worked as a Programme Manager for the National Programme for IT (NPfIT) in the North East Sector of Greater Manchester delivering national primary care IT projects and then for NHS Greater Manchester Commissioning Support Unit where he helped to set up the Project Management Office (PMO). Martin is currently the Head of IT Delivery and Development for NHS Greater Manchester Shared Services.

In his current role Martin continues to oversee the deployments of national IT projects but has expanded his remit to cover the whole of Greater Manchester including a large number of local IT projects and a range of complex, high cost Greater Manchester wide infrastructure projects that make up the Service Transition Programme. In addition to delivering projects Martin's team also provides day to day IT support and assistance to all Greater Manchester GP Practices.

Before joining the NHS Martin served in the RAF for 20 years working as an Electronics Engineer on aircraft including Nimrods, Tornados and Typhoons. He has a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Informatics from the University of Manchester and a Masters Degree in Management from Manchester Metropolitan University.

As Chief Information Officer, Malcolm is responsible for the strategic planning, definition, delivery and service for all aspects of IT and Digital services for both our customers and our internal needs.

He joined us from the University of Manchester where he was responsible for providing IT shared services across teaching and research for a variety of schools, faculties and public facing institutions (e.g. Manchester Museum, Jodrell Bank, Whitworth art gallery and six overseas offices), together with IT in support of corporate services providing shared HR, finance and procurement services across the university.

Prior to this Malcolm held executive CIO and CTO roles for a global insurance company, a high profile military charity and one of the largest central government departments.  He brings experience in developing corporate strategy, digital strategy, IT strategy, development of business capability models, systems thinking and enterprise architecture. He was awarded a CBE in the 2012 New Year Honours.
